I may not be around much this week because ...
Starting tomorrow, I get my assistant at work! I'll be spending the next week or 8 training him to know all of the testing that I currently do. The next 2 months will be a little rough until he's up to speed, but then he'll be on his own (sort of) and I'll be getting more involved with my projects!

Fur Baby Friday

I took this video the other night of my adorable "little" Maine Coon, Einstein. He plays "fetch" with hair ties.

In a funk ...
Have you ever just had one of those weeks where you're just in a funk? I'm having one of those weeks. You know - one of those "don't feel like doing anything, would rather lay in bed and sleep, feel like I could cry at the drop of a hat" weeks. Yay. Hopefully I'll be back to normal soon ...

Sometimes ... and Always ...
Sometimes ... I think about what it would be like to live in a big city - like NYC.
Always ... I remember my trip this weekend - the rude people, the fact that the city smelled like urine, the insanely high prices, etc ... and I'm happy to live where we do. Highlight of my trip? THIS picture:
Yes, I met THE Hello Kitty
We also saw this gorgeous memorial ... and I was at a loss for words.
Sometimes ... we get bored at work and decide to take field trips. Like onto the roof of the plant.
We wanted to check out the solar panels.
Sometimes ... I get tired of working with all men. The vulgarity is disgusting and I'm tired of hearing sexual comments and homosexual comments that they throw back and forth. Sometimes I wish they'd remember that I'm a woman and censure themselves.
Always ... I know that if I want to survive in this field, I need to deal with it. It's a male dominated field, so it's what I've gotta do.
Sometimes ... I participate in a blog swap but forget to link up my goodies!
Always ... better late than never! Cole at All the Small Stuff hosted the flip flop swap. I was paired with Michelle of Stuttering Shell, and she sent these lovelies. Speaking of Michelle, head over to her blog, she's got some "don'ts" about your feet and sandals. I'm proud to say that I do not commit any of these don'ts, but I do have chipped polish ... ooops!
Sometimes ... I really miss having friends. I want "adult" friends - you know, the people that are settled and starting families or have good careers and good goals - not the ones that still act like they're in college or go out and drink until they can't remember.
Always ... it's just me and hubby. Seriously, we need couple friends. and I need girlfriends that I can shop with and talk to and hang out with.

Socialpunk
I recently had the privilege of getting an advance copy of "Socialpunk" by Monica Leonelle. Monica Leonelle is a well-known digital media strategist and the author of three novels. She blogs at Prose on Fire (http://proseonfire.com) and shares her writing and social media knowledge with other bloggers and authors through her Free Writer Toolkit (http://proseonfire.com/free-writer-toolkit).
From the author:
Ima would give anything to escape The Dome and learn what’s beyond its barriers, but the Chicago government has kept all its citizens on lockdown ever since the Scorched Years left most of the world a desert wasteland. When a mysterious group of hooded figures enters the city unexpectedly, Ima uncovers a plot to destroy The Dome and is given the choice between escaping to a new, dangerous city or staying behind and fighting a battle she can never win.
My opinion:
I really loved this book. When it ended, I was sad ... and I can't wait for the next book. This book is a great work of scifi, and is (in my opinion) a book that anyone that loved Hunger Games would love. It's hard to say anything without ruining the plot, so I'm going to leave it at that. I highly recommend that you head to Amazon and buy this book!

Work
I'm not here today ... but I'm over at Nikki's blog telling her readers what I do for a living. Head over and check it out!

I'll be back tomorrow ... with a recap of my NYC trip and an update on my back (I meet with the spine surgeon today).

NYC!
On Saturday, Hubby and I are headed to NYC on a bus trip with his co-workers (the bus ride is less than 3 hours).
This is what I'm planning to wear:
We'll be going to see the 9/11 Memorial ... but other than that, I have no idea what we're going to do. Suggestions?

Babies?
After all of the face recognition from yesterday's link up, I decided to try the "what will your baby look like?" websites. Bad idea. If I ever want to convince my husband to have babies, I need to not show him these pictures ...
Goodness ... I hope our real babies will be cuter than these babies!

Two birds, One post.
Lucky you - two link ups today! :)

Sometimes ... I think about getting a 2nd Masters or my PhD.
Always ... I remember what a GIANT pain-in-the-arse this first Masters was, and I come to my senses. (in case y'all missed it, I will be graduating next month with my Masters since my thesis has officially been approved!)
Sometimes ... I love going out to eat.
Always ... it's gotta be one of two options: the local Mexican place, Miranda's, or the local family-run Italian place, Tony's.
Sometimes ... I want to call or text my friends and blog friends.
Always ... I either fall asleep or feel like I'm bothering them, so I don't.
Sometimes ... I want to do something interesting on the weekend - like this Saturday, we're going to NYC with some of hubby's co-workers.
Always ... I end up laying around because I just want to relax.

I have learned several things from Raven's linkup ...
1) I am not photogenic - at least not inside my house and with my iPhone.
2) A lot of photo matching sites match based on hair.
3) I apparently look like a man?
Without further adieu ... a few of my matches ...

I also asked on Instagram, and I got these recommendations: Julia Stiles and Reese Witherspoon. However, I hear EVERYWHERE I freaking go that I look like Rachel McAdams (but I don't see that either). So you be the judge:

Reason 765,983 why I love my husband
As you probably remember from last Tuesday, I had a run-in with a deer that caused a ton of damage to my car.
On Wednesday, my husband ordered a new mirror for my car. It should arrive on Wednesday, and he'll install it on the weekend.
Saturday, we went to the U-Pull-It junkyard to look for decent body panels to replace the dented ones on my car. If your husband/boyfriend/significant other is remotely handy, I recommend this route. It is cheaper and a lot easier to get a color match because the junk yard car should be faded about as much as your car is.

I'm always amazed at how many cars there are.
We found my car's twin, and my wonderful hubby pulled the fender off.
Oh, and I couldn't resist taking a picture of this. I don't know who Ralph is, but someone doesn't like him much.

Happy at work
Megan got me thinking today ... she does this a lot.
I have to work. I am not independently wealthy, nor is my husband. He doesn't make enough for me to stay home, and I wouldn't want to. We're partners in this marriage, which means that we both need to work - at least until there are Baby Physicists to think about.
That being said, some days at work, I am a total b*tch. I have a co-worker that can get under my skin very easily, and I let him ruin my day. Some days, he's great and we are a great team (he is in another department but we work together on some things). Other days, he could drive me crazy enough to quit. I know I shouldn't let him get to me, but he does.
Some of my co-workers call me Sunshine, which makes me laugh. Most days, I am not their "little ray of sunshine", but they say that I brighten their day. I try to go out of my way to be nice and help out the people I work with - from the CEO/President down to the manufacturing guys.
I need to improve my attitude at work and not let the jerk(s) get to me. So who wants to team up with me and hold me accountable? :)

Wednesday Randoms
I am feeling kind of random today, so here is your daily dose of "PrettyPhysicist Randomness". Enjoy!
- I left the clump of deer hair in my bumper from yesterday. Let it be a reminder to all of the other deer out there ...
- Usually I prefer my cereal without milk. My favorite is plain cheerios right out of the box. This morning? Well, this morning, I just HAD to have frosted flakes AND raisin bran. So what did I do? Mixed them together and poured milk over them. I'm sure it was not healthy AT ALL, but man was it yummy! (Oh, and I can't tell you the last time I actually ate cereal, let alone for breakfast)
- For the first time, I decided to actually try the perfume that came in my Birchbox this month. Man was it disgusting. I didn't have time to re-shower to wash it off, so I smell like some old lady bathed in "Vanilla Fields". Recommendation to all: don't bother trying Yogini.
- I say most of what pops into my head. For some reason, the little filter between my brain and my mouth ... you know, the one that says "Uh, you probably shouldn't say that out loud" ... it doesn't really work. You're welcome because I say some hilarious and stupid stuff and I'm sorry because I probably offend a dozen people per day.
- I was going through pictures from when I was a little kid (up through high school), and I came across this picture (and I apologize because it is a picture of a picture), which is one of my all-time favorites. Oh yes, I used to be a ginger.
So now it is your turn ... leave me a comment with some random fact about you!

Sometimes and Always ...

Y'all - go link up with Megan!
Sometimes ... I hate living out in the country. Damn deer (well, I think he was actually a buck) running into the side of my car on my way to work! Thank goodness I called home to my hubby who told me to turn around and come home and he'd assess the situation. Well, I have 2 dents (which he wants me to get fixed) and a busted side mirror (that he's going to fix). Other than that, I'm a bit shaken up, but I'm ok. and I *may* have re-thought my position on eating venison.
Always ... I love our house and can't imagine living anywhere else.
Sometimes ... I really just want to go out and run.
Always ... I remember that my back is all sorts of messed up (4 fractures, and now arthritis and a bulged disk).
Sometimes ... I want to take a vacation and meet my blog friends!
Always ... they're too far away or it's too expensive or hubby can't go (and no offense, but I'm a little nervous to meet a "stranger" by myself!)
Sorry this is so short ... but I'm still a little shaken from this morning's "incident" and I was 30 minutes late for work ... so I've got catching up to do!

New Hair?
Thanks for your input on Thursday's post. I'm reading everything and trying to decide what I want to do that will be easy for me and not cause me to break out.
I have an appointment this upcoming Thursday to get my hair cut. Unless I get other suggestions from y'all that I like, here is the look I'm going for (style, not necessarily the color ... yet):
So what are your thoughts on this style? I'm also thinking of changing the color, but that'll have to wait a couple weeks - I just got this color done and I do not want to fry my hair. ;)

Makeover Thursday?
Since this little ol' blog is my place to put myself out there without judgement, I'm doing that today and I'm asking for help.
I know I've said it many times, but I don't wear makeup. First of all, I get up at 5 AM every morning, so if I'm going to do something, it's got to be easy. Second, I am just no good at applying makeup and figuring out what looks good. Here's where y'all come in. Below I'm posting a picture of me sans makeup, with my normal hair.
Now you get to have fun (if you like this sort of thing) - look at my picture and my coloring, and make some recommendations! Hair style, hair color, makeup, etc. I'm open to trying anything!
Oh, and I thank you in advance for not judging me for taking a mirror picture in the dirty locker room mirrors at work. (oh, and for ignoring the zit between my eyebrows).
